Tenerife’s largest shareholder, Raico García, pledged to support the family of Jesús de Miguel after the player’s death, telling his teammates that his daughter would want for nothing and that the club would stand by her and his wife, María.
According to journalist Joel del Río, García gathered the team’s players near the funeral home to talk about saying goodbye to their late teammate and supporting his family. Overcome with emotion as he spoke, he began to cry and left, while the players were in a state of shock and grief.
Del Río noted that the show of solidarity extended to the city, where fans, friends and members of the football community came to say goodbye to de Miguel and support his family. He added that the hardest period may begin after the funeral rites end and the crowds disperse, when the family faces his daily absence.
