Barcelona are preparing to face Atlético Madrid at the Metropolitano in a match the report describes as decisive in the race for the Spanish league title. They go into the game after a run of four consecutive league wins away to Atlético, according to statistics cited by Spanish newspaper Sport.
The teams’ meetings at Atlético’s new stadium began with two 1-1 draws in its first two seasons, before Lionel Messi scored the winner for Barcelona in December 2019. Atlético won in the following two seasons, before the results turned in Barcelona’s favour: they won through a goal from Ousmane Dembélé in January 2023, then recorded a 3-0 victory in March 2024 with goals from João Félix, Robert Lewandowski and Fermín López.
In March 2025, Barcelona came from two goals down with 20 minutes remaining to win 4-2, through goals from Lewandowski, Ferran Torres, Lamine Yamal and Raphinha. They also won on their next visit, according to the report, after Marcus Rashford cancelled out Atlético’s lead through Giuliano Simeone, before Lewandowski scored the winner in the 87th minute.
The report notes that cup results differ from the league run. In the 2025 Copa del Rey semi-final, the teams drew 4-4 in the first leg at Montjuïc, then Barcelona won the return leg in Madrid 1-0 with a goal from Ferran Torres. In another meeting in the competition, Atlético advanced 4-3 on aggregate despite losing the second leg, having taken a 4-0 lead in the first leg and then coming close to being overhauled by Barcelona, who scored three goals.
In last season’s Champions League, Atlético won 2-0 at Camp Nou, and Barcelona responded with a 2-1 victory in Madrid through two goals from Yamal and Torres; however, Ademola Lookman’s goal sent Atlético through.
