West Ham have sacked Portuguese coach Nuno Espírito Santo, the London club said on Tuesday, after a disappointing start in the Championship, the English second tier.
Santo took charge of the team last season, when they were relegated from the Premier League. West Ham are eighth, six points behind leaders Middlesbrough, despite being considered strong candidates for automatic promotion.
The club confirmed in a statement that the men's first-team manager had left with immediate effect. Santo has previously managed Valencia, Porto and Tottenham, and also worked in the Saudi league with Al-Ittihad.
