Paul Scholes believes Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice could become almost impossible to stop if he moves the ball faster and takes fewer touches. The former Manchester United player gave his assessment after Arsenal's 1-0 win over Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.
Speaking on The Good, the Bad & the Football podcast, Scholes said he had previously criticised Rice for holding on to the ball for too long in midfield, but praised his physical abilities and likened his style to Steven Gerrard's. He added that combining quick passing with powerful runs could make him more influential.
Scholes cited Rice's performance against Liverpool, when he made a powerful run before delivering the cross from which Kai Havertz scored the winning goal. He also pointed to his goal against Bayern Munich in Arsenal's 2-2 draw in the Champions League as an example of his attacking potential. Scholes said Rice had already begun showing some of the adjustments he had called for.
