The Spanish FA suspended Tuesday’s Copa del Rey and Copa de la Reina matches following the death of Tenerife striker Jesús de Miguel, aged 30, after a collision during his side’s match against Andorra. The federation also cancelled the presentation ceremony for the friendly between Spain’s under-21 side and Japan.

The Royal Spanish Football Federation announced the suspension of the Copa del Rey and Copa de la Reina matches scheduled for Tuesday, following the death of Tenerife striker Jesús de Miguel, aged 30, after a collision during his side’s match against Andorra. The federation also cancelled the presentation ceremony for the friendly between Spain’s under-21 side and Japan.
The federation said in a statement that the dates of the postponed matches and the revised schedule would be announced later, with no replacement date set so far. It offered its condolences to the player’s family and friends, and to Tenerife and its supporters.
De Miguel collided with Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono in the 96th minute of the match, as Owono came out to clear a long ball. The player was taken to hospital after suffering a cardiorespiratory arrest, and paramedics managed to restore his pulse. The referee sent off Owono, then stopped the match and decided not to resume it after consulting the two teams’ captains and delegates.
