Malian midfielder Aliou Dieng is close to leaving Valencia in the upcoming winter transfer window after failing to convince the coaching staff since joining the club at the start of the season. Dieng joined the Spanish side on a free transfer after his spell with Al Ahly came to an end.
Dieng has made six appearances for Valencia, playing a total of 232 minutes, without securing a place in the starting line-up. He played the full match against Barcelona and Sevilla in the fourth and fifth rounds, before his appearances declined after the Sevilla match on 11 September. He was absent from four of the team's last five matches despite being on the bench, and played five minutes against Racing in the eighth round.
According to Cadena COPE, Valencia's management have decided to part ways with Dieng in the winter transfer window because they are dissatisfied with his performances. The report noted that the player has not reached the physical level and tempo required to compete in the Spanish league, although he has not had enough opportunities to prove his ability or earn a place in the starting line-up.
The report added that signing Dieng was a gamble by the club's scout, Lisandro Esi, and that the player has not delivered the expected return, prompting the management to reassess his future ahead of parting ways with him in January.
