Nathaniel Clyne reflects on Liverpool frustration and his role in the club’s revival

Nathaniel Clyne admitted he was frustrated by his lack of appearances and consistency at Liverpool, but said he was happy to have been part of the beginning of the team’s revival under Jürgen Klopp. The defender made 102 appearances over four seasons and contributed seven goals, according to the report.
Clyne explained that he spent a season and a half without playing regularly, and felt frustrated when he was physically fit but was not selected to play. Even so, he felt that the team’s improvement pushed him to raise his level and work towards returning quickly.
Clyne preferred to look for a club that would give him the chance to play, and returned to Crystal Palace in 2020. He left the club this summer after making 252 appearances for them, aged thirty-five, and is preparing to move to Sporting Club Jacksonville in Florida.
Clyne praised Klopp’s hunger and demands of his players, as well as the standards of hard work and confidence at Liverpool. Although he felt his career with the team could have gone better, he appreciates his contribution to the early steps of an era that changed the club’s fortunes.
