English striker Ivan Toney was absent from Al-Ahli’s starting lineup for their match against Al-Shabab after attending a hearing at Southwark Crown Court in England on Thursday over an accusation that he assaulted someone. Al-Riyadiya reported that the limited time after the hearing meant he could not make the match, and that he would join Al-Ahli’s delegation in Qatar ahead of Monday’s AFC Champions League Elite match against Al-Sadd.
Al-Ahli visit Al-Shabab on Friday at SHG Arena in Riyadh for the twelfth round of the Roshn League. Al-Ahli coach Marino Bosich selected Firas Al-Buraikan to lead the attack, supported by Francisco Trincão and Matheus Gonçalves, while Wenderson Galeno was named among the substitutes after recovering from the injury that had kept him out of the previous four matches.
Bosich left goalkeeper Édouard Mendy out of the squad despite his having travelled to Riyadh, and kept Abdulrahman Al-Sanbi in the starting lineup. The lineup was: Al-Sanbi; Mohammed Abdulrahman, Roger Ibañez, Rayan Hamid, Saad Balobaid; Valentin Atangana, Artem Bondarenko, Ziyad Al-Johani; Trincão, Al-Buraikan, and Saleh Abu Al-Shamat.
Before the match, Al-Ahli were sixth with 21 points from seven wins and three defeats, while Al-Shabab were twelfth with 11 points.
