Chelsea beat Manchester United 2-0 in their Premier League meeting at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. Morgan Rogers opened the scoring for the home side five minutes into the second half, getting past United’s defence before lifting the ball over goalkeeper Senne Lammens.
United’s task became more difficult in the 62nd minute, when defender Lisandro Martínez was sent off after receiving a second booking following an incident with Wesley Fofana. Chelsea took advantage of their numerical superiority, with Cole Palmer scoring a penalty in the 64th minute to add a second goal.
United failed to threaten Chelsea’s goal effectively after the dismissal, and Bryan Mbeumo almost pulled one back in stoppage time, but his shot hit the crossbar. The win gave Chelsea a boost after a difficult spell, while increasing pressure on United manager Michael Carrick as his team continued to struggle for consistency.
