Hossam Hassan responded to reports that he might leave his role as Egypt coach, saying in an interview with Telegraph Egypt on Friday, November 6, that he did not know who was spreading the stories. He also rejected linking reports about his marital disagreements to assessments of his work, stressing that his performance, relationship with the players and the national team’s results are what he should be judged on.
Hassan said he had not spoken publicly about his family and was accustomed to staying out of the media spotlight. He added that the coaching staff had recently identified promising players who could benefit Egyptian football in the coming years, and that preparations for the next training camp had already begun.
He said the team director had held a meeting with Egyptian Football Association president Hany Abu Rida to discuss arrangements for the training camp and the next phase. Hassan defended his staff’s approach to discipline and player management, saying clubs also bear responsibility for managing their players well and making use of their abilities.
His comments come amid speculation about his future and reports linking it to matters concerning his private life, while he said he was focused on his responsibilities with the national team and its upcoming preparations.
