A report by The Athletic says Barcelona want to sell defender Alejandro Balde, which could make it easier for Manchester United to pursue him if they renew their interest in the player. United are looking to strengthen at left-back after suffering absences and injuries in the position.
According to the report, Barcelona have been keen to sell Balde since the summer, but were unable to complete a deal at the time. The player had hoped to regain his place in manager Hansi Flick’s plans, despite being told he was not part of the team’s requirements. The report says the club’s need to raise funds to sign a left-footed centre-back has increased its desire to sell.
The report notes that 23-year-old Balde has played only 124 minutes this season, despite wanting to stay at the club where he came through the ranks. It also mentions Newcastle United and their player Lewis Hall as a previous first-choice option for Manchester United, while noting that Luke Shaw’s contract expires at the end of the season and that, according to the report, Patrick Dorgu is not a natural left-back under Michael Carrick.
