Barcelona are planning to strengthen their defence in the upcoming winter transfer window and have Manchester United defender Lisandro Martínez among their options, according to Sport, citing The Athletic.
The interest comes amid a number of defensive injuries at Barcelona, with Andreas Christensen, Eric García, Jules Koundé and Xavi Espart unavailable. Hans Flick also considers strengthening at centre-back a priority, while Martínez is among sporting director Deco’s targets.
Completing the deal remains conditional on the cost not being too high, journalist Laurie Whitwell reports, given the financial fair play rules. Barcelona also need to sell a player before signing another in January under the 1:1 rule. Martínez is under contract with Manchester United until the end of the current season, with an option to extend for one additional season, and has previously criticised the English club’s management in comments.
