Modern Group chairman Walid Dabbas stressed the need to preserve the Egyptian identity of Al Ahly and Zamalek, saying a foreign investor should own no more than 25% of either club’s football company and should not be granted management rights.

Modern Group chairman Walid Dabbas stressed the need to preserve the Egyptian identity of Al Ahly and Zamalek, saying a foreign investor should not own more than 25% of either club’s football company, nor be granted management rights.
Speaking on “Modern Sports” on the “modern mti” channel, Dabbas said the popularity and standing of Al Ahly and Zamalek in Egyptian football make them different from popular clubs in European leagues. He added that an Egyptian investor should not later sell their stake to a foreign investor.
Dabbas noted that a foreign investor would not enter this field as an act of charity, and called for the issue to be studied carefully and for hasty decisions to be avoided. He also said that some Zamalek supporters and businesspeople affiliated with the club are willing to invest in its football company in a way that preserves its identity and interests.
