Bruno Fernandes: Manchester United’s win over Roma wasn’t about saving anyone’s job
Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes said their 3-2 Champions League win over Roma was not about saving manager Michael Carrick’s job. The whole team needed the victory to regain confidence and get through a difficult spell.

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes said their 3-2 Champions League win over Roma was not about saving manager Michael Carrick’s job, explaining that the whole team needed the victory to regain confidence and get through a difficult spell.
Fernandes noted that Manchester United went into the match after nine consecutive games without a win in all competitions, amid media speculation about what was happening inside the club. He denied reports of a problem between him and the manager, stressing that their relationship was clear.
He explained that, in his view, his omission from the starting lineup against Bournemouth in the Premier League was down to his performance, not a disagreement with Carrick. He added that he accepted the coaching staff’s decisions and remained confident in the manager and the players. He hoped the win over Roma would be a turning point in the team’s season.
