The Egyptian Football Association has begun efforts to contain the dispute that arose between Mohamed Salah and Egypt’s coaching staff, led by Hossam Hassan and Ibrahim Hassan, during the last camp, seeking to ease tensions and keep the national team captain in its plans for the next phase.
Salah left the national team camp in September 2026 after the match against Angola in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. This came after Hossam Hassan substituted him in the 60th minute of the match, which ended in a goalless draw. The coach said after the game that the substitution was for tactical reasons, confirming that Salah was not injured.
Journalist Ahmed Abdel Baset reported that Egyptian FA president Hany Abo Rida will visit Salah in Turkey in the coming hours, with the aim of bringing him and the coaching staff closer together and paving the way for Salah to join the national team’s next camp.
Egypt are preparing to face Malawi in the third and fourth rounds of the qualifiers. The camp begins on 9 November at the National Teams Centre. The first match will be played on 13 November at Cairo International Stadium, and the second on 17 November at Bingu National Stadium in Malawi.
Egypt lead Group B with four points, level on points with Angola and ahead on goal difference. Malawi have three points, while South Sudan sit bottom without a point. Egypt drew goalless with Angola before beating South Sudan five-nil.
