Morocco is emerging as a contender to host the Club World Cup in 2029, amid indications of an expected agreement between the Confederation of African Football and FIFA on scheduling the 2028 Africa Cup of Nations. This could allow the kingdom to stage the tournament a year before the 2030 World Cup.
This comes as Morocco prepares to host major sporting events, after Fouzi Lekjaa, president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, affirmed the kingdom’s readiness to do so. The Hassan II Stadium in Benslimane has been proposed as one of the venues that could host matches in the tournament.
If the hosting is confirmed, the champion of the Moroccan professional league for the 2028-2029 season could take part in the Club World Cup, in accordance with the participation format in force. The report says this could increase the importance of the domestic title race, while arrangements and official decisions on hosting the tournament are still pending.
