Tenerife had announced the death of the 30-year-old player on Tuesday morning. The collision occurred in the 96th minute of Monday’s match, when Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono came out to clear a long ball and collided with de Miguel, who fell unconscious.
Medical staff intervened and de Miguel was taken to hospital after suffering cardiorespiratory arrest; paramedics restored his pulse after resuscitation efforts. The referee stopped play to allow him to receive treatment, then ended the match after consulting the two team captains and their representatives, given the players’ emotional state and inability to continue playing.
