Rice and Carragher weigh in on Premier League title race after Arsenal beat Liverpool
Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice said his side’s 1-0 win over Liverpool, which put them three points clear at the top of the Premier League, was not yet a decisive result in the title race. The two leading teams had been level on points before the round, while Manchester City lost to Brighton on Saturday.

Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice said his side’s 1-0 win over Liverpool, which put them three points clear at the top of the Premier League, was not yet a decisive result in the title race. The two leading teams had been level on points before the round, while Manchester City lost to Brighton on Saturday.
Rice said he believed the league standings could not be seriously judged until February or March, and that teams had to keep winning until then. He added that any team still close to the top at that point would have a chance to compete.
For his part, Jamie Carragher joked after the match that the result meant Liverpool would not win the league. Before the game, he had said a Liverpool victory would make them title contenders, citing their improved results after their defeat to Manchester City. But he considered that the loss made their involvement in the title race less clear, even though the season was still in its early stages.
