Patrick Dorgu returned to Manchester United’s first-team training on Monday, giving the club a boost ahead of their clash with Roma. The Danish winger had been absent since suffering a hamstring problem during the September international break, when he featured for his country against Wales in the UEFA Nations League.
Dorgu’s absence, along with Luke Shaw’s injury, affected manager Michael Carrick’s options at left-back. Dorgu has played in that position at times before, but under Carrick he has mostly featured as a more advanced winger.
United will hope Dorgu’s return can help the team end a run of nine matches without a win, dating back to their 5-2 victory over Ipswich Town at the end of August, which the report says was their only league win this season. The team are seventeenth after losing to Chelsea on Saturday, a match in which Lisandro Martínez was sent off after receiving two cautions.
Pressure on Carrick mounted as the winless run continued. He had apologised to the fans after the Champions League defeat to Como two weeks ago, then United lost 3-0 at home to Bournemouth. The report said the club kept the manager in his job ahead of the trip to Chelsea, with a view to reassessing his position during the November international break, after the matches against Roma and Aston Villa.
