Morocco coach Mohamed Wahbi said Youssef En-Nesyri’s return to the squad was no surprise, as the striker had remained under consideration and under monitoring by the coaching staff since preparations began.
Wahbi said En-Nesyri had been included in the preliminary squad and that the coaching staff had followed his matches for Saudi club Al-Ittihad in the league and cup, assessing his level every week. He added that his absence from previous call-ups had given other players with similar attributes the opportunity to prove themselves.
Wahbi justified bringing the Moroccan striker back into the current squad by pointing to his technical and physical abilities, saying the timing was right to give him an opportunity within the team’s tactical system. He noted that En-Nesyri’s attributes could be useful against Niger, while stressing that he should be given a fair chance to prove himself.
Wahbi expressed his happiness at En-Nesyri’s return and said he was confident the striker could make a contribution to the national team.
