Former Zamalek star Farouk Gaafar said they are preparing to meet the Minister of Youth and Sports in the coming two days to present their opposition to offering investors a stake in the football company. He explained that they do not oppose establishing the company, but reject the club’s stake becoming the smallest, which would limit its ability to control the football sector.
The Zamalek board, headed by Hussein Labib, had invited members of the General Assembly to an ordinary meeting on December 8, 2026, to discuss reducing the club’s share of the capital of Zamalek Football Company to less than 51%, provided it does not fall below 40%, with the remaining share available to Egyptian and foreign members and investors, according to the source’s account of Article 71 of Sports Law No. 171 of 2025.
Gaafar said the board had not contacted them. He criticized giving the investor the right to manage and object to the ownership percentages, warning that the club’s situation could deteriorate. He added that the move aims to preserve Zamalek’s identity and emblem.
