Oñono Name Mix-Up Brings Abuse to Player and Commentator After Jesús de Miguel’s Death
Can Vidalet player Michel Oñono received abusive messages, threats and racist comments after being mistaken for Jesús Oñono, the Andorra goalkeeper who collided with late Tenerife striker Jesús de Miguel. Michel did not play in the match and had no connection to the incident.

Michel Oñono, a player for Spanish club Can Vidalet, received abusive messages, threats and racist comments after being mistaken for Jesús Oñono, the Andorra goalkeeper who collided with late Tenerife striker Jesús de Miguel. Michel did not play in the match and had no connection to the incident.
Michel explained on his X account that he was a different person from the goalkeeper, expressing his dismay at the insults and threats. He also offered his condolences to de Miguel’s family, while his club condemned the abuse he had received and announced its support for him.
Michel and Jesús Oñono share Equatorial Guinean nationality and a surname, but they are not related and differ in age, position and club: Jesús, born in 2001, is an Andorra goalkeeper, while Michel, born in 1996, is a right-back at Can Vidalet.
The confusion also affected commentator and former footballer Alberto Edjogo-Owono, who received abusive comments on Instagram and was accused of murder despite having no connection to the incident, while other users tried to correct the mix-up.
