VAR explains decision not to send off Jayden Bogle against Tottenham

The Premier League’s Match Centre confirmed that VAR reviewed and upheld the decision not to send off Leeds’ Jayden Bogle for his challenge on Tottenham winger Mathys Tel. The referee said Bogle’s slow approach and the way he entered the challenge made it reckless, but not serious foul play warranting a red card.
Tel left the pitch before half-time after trying to continue, and Dominic Solanke came on for him two minutes before the break. It was the second lengthy VAR check of the half: Leeds appealed for a penalty after the ball struck Mateo Fernandes’ arm following a cross, but referee John Brooks waved play on.
The Premier League’s Match Centre said the decision not to award Leeds a penalty had been reviewed and upheld, ruling that Fernandes had not committed a handball offence. Pundits Steven Gerrard and Lucy Ward disagreed in their assessment of the incident: Gerrard felt the player had escaped punishment, while Ward said the ball appeared to have struck his shoulder.
