Rio Ferdinand expects William Saliba to reclaim his place in Arsenal’s lineup after returning to training and nearing a return to action, saying his quality makes it difficult to keep him on the bench.
Saliba has been absent since the start of the season with a chronic back problem, and Arsenal opted to rest him rather than have him undergo surgery. The source says he has not played since the World Cup and also missed the team’s pre-season preparations, while Arsenal coped with his absence thanks to the arrival of Ezri Konsa.
Ferdinand said Konsa had performed well alongside Gabriel, but felt Saliba’s return would require Mikel Arteta to find room for the players. He raised the possibility of Konsa moving to right-back, while stressing that Saliba must be fully recovered before returning to matches.
