Reports: Owono Could Face 12-Match Ban After Tenerife Player’s Death
Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Lázaro Owono could face a ban of up to 12 matches after being sent off following a collision with Tenerife’s Jesús de Miguel, who later died. The potential punishment depends on whether the competition committee applies an article of the Spanish Football Federation’s regulations on violence against an opponent.

Mundo Deportivo reported that Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Lázaro Owono could face a ban of up to 12 matches after being sent off following a collision with Tenerife’s Jesús de Miguel, who later died as a result of the incident. The potential punishment depends on whether the competition committee applies an article of the Royal Spanish Football Federation’s regulations concerning violence against an opponent.
The collision took place in the closing minutes of the match between Andorra and Tenerife, when Owono came out to clear an aerial ball and collided with de Miguel’s chest. The striker suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest and was taken to hospital. Tenerife later announced his death on Tuesday morning after he had spent time in intensive care.
According to referee Manuel Ángel Pérez Hernández’s report, Owono was sent off in the 90th minute for kicking an opponent with excessive force, and the match was stopped in the 96th minute by agreement between the parties. The report said de Miguel received treatment on the pitch before being carried off on a stretcher, and that play was stopped as his condition deteriorated, after consultation with the two captains and their representatives, because the players were not in a suitable mental state to continue.
Article 102, according to the wording cited in the source, stipulates a ban of between four and twelve matches if violent conduct toward an opponent leads to harmful consequences or serious injuries, unless the act constitutes a more serious offence. Owono closed his social media accounts after the incident.
