Moatasem Salem, Pyramids’ assistant coach, said the reserve team was established to prepare more players and provide alternatives for the first team as the club competes in multiple tournaments. In televised remarks, he explained that the project includes a parallel team alongside the preparation of some first-team players, giving the club a pool of players.
Salem added that whether reserve-team players feature for the first team depends on coach Rolani Mokwena’s wishes and needs, noting that Mokwena monitors the players in training. He said he could not judge how similar Mokwena is to Pitso Mosimane because he was not close to the latter, but praised Mokwena’s ability, social intelligence and capacity to connect with players. He also praised Nasser Maher, saying he is committed in training, follows the coach’s instructions and plays an important role in linking defence and attack.
According to the source, sporting director Hani Said and Mokwena agreed to form the reserve team, led by Moatasem Salem with Khaled Abdullah as his assistant. Pyramids B played its first preparatory friendly ahead of the next stage. The technical and administrative staff includes Salah Riko as assistant coach, Khaled Abdullah as goalkeeping coach, Essam Abu Shousha as fitness coach, Essam El-Demerdash as doctor, and Ahmed Sayed as pitch assistant.
