Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane discussed his development since moving to Germany and a conversation he previously had with José Mourinho at a press conference ahead of the Champions League league phase matchday four clash with Atlético Madrid. He said moving to Bayern was a family and sporting challenge, but that he was happy with his decision.
Kane described the match against Atlético as difficult, pointing to their physical strength, pressing and attacking ability, and said his team would not underestimate their opponents. He also expressed his appreciation for Diego Simeone’s praise, describing him as one of the best managers of the modern era.
Kane said his conversation with Mourinho at Tottenham was about how to make the most of his abilities, and that he realised then he was capable of achieving more. He added that his style had changed and he had been given more freedom, and said Bayern had provided an environment that helped him raise his level.
He also addressed the absences, saying young players were ready to feature and that the team’s aim was to beat Atlético before turning its focus to the Bundesliga. He also said he did not know who would start up front and would not reveal the lineup even if he did know.
Asked about returning to Atlético’s stadium after losing the Champions League final with Tottenham in 2019, he said he did not have good memories of the stadium, but was excited to return and hoped his team could create a new memory. He also said he would stick to his usual routine if Bayern were awarded a penalty, after missing a few penalties last year.
