Como president: We want to build a Barcelona-style football identity and share expertise with 27 clubs

Como president Mirwan Suwarso told TNT Sports’ Adam Summerton that the club wants to build a football identity inspired by Barcelona, focusing on possession, high pressing and entertaining football. The interview came after Como’s 9-1 win over Lens, described in the source as the biggest victory by an Italian club in Champions League history.
Suwarso explained that Como aims to follow Brighton and Brentford’s approach to recruitment by looking for undervalued talent. He said the Hartono brothers have owned the club for seven years, having bought it when it was in Italy’s fourth tier, and that Cesc Fabregas joined as a player in 2022 before taking charge as coach and leading the team to the Champions League.
He added that Como is now selling its expertise to 27 clubs, turning successful ideas into services and products that can be offered to other teams. He said this was because a single club’s revenue is limited, whereas sharing expertise can expand its reach.
Suwarso noted that Como is fourth in Serie A with 23 points, and that a win over Inter at San Siro on Sunday at 18:00 Central European Time could allow them to overtake them. He also said narrowing the gap with the Premier League would take time, and argued that Italian football features more attacking teams, young players and exciting strikers, stressing that clubs in Italy cooperate to grow.
