Alonso: We didn’t discuss Palmer’s England omission

Chelsea coach Xabi Alonso said his conversation with Cole Palmer did not touch on his omission from England’s squad, explaining that they focused on the team’s upcoming match against Sunderland. He praised the player’s form, quality and positive influence on his teammates.
Alonso added that discussions within the club focused on developing Palmer’s performance and helping him produce his best. They did not address whether he regretted the player’s absence from the international camp or wanted to represent his country. He also said he had not asked players to withdraw from their national teams, and that the club shares information with medical staff when a player is not fit.
The coach urged Palmer to focus on football and enjoy playing, noting that the team had already discussed the red card he received after the match against Tottenham.
On the players’ medical condition, Alonso said Moisés Caicedo would be assessed after feeling discomfort in his calf, and that Maxence Lacroix and João Pedro were not expected to feature against Sunderland. Emiliano Martínez’s status would be decided after the final assessment, as his return had come earlier than expected.
