Zamalek board member Ahmed Suleiman said he opposes holding the club’s upcoming general assembly on Tuesday without guarantees concerning the launch of its football company. He stressed that he does not oppose establishing the company, but supports it under conditions he had previously set out.
He called for Zamalek to retain the controlling stake in the company and for its valuation to be presented to the general assembly after being prepared by a specialist body, with members choosing from three or more valuations and given the opportunity to discuss the valuation. He also called for clarification on whether the investor would pay for their stake in cash or in instalments, for the duration of any instalment plan to be specified, and for disclosure of whether the offering would include the club’s trademarks and logo, broadcasting rights, and activities associated with the football company.
Suleiman proposed holding the assembly on Friday or across Friday and Saturday to allow members to participate, and conducting the vote using ballot boxes or considering electronic voting. He said these demands were guarantees of a transparent vote, and that he had recorded his opposition to holding the assembly on Tuesday without them in the minutes of board meetings, in order to ensure the club’s members and fans were informed of his position.
