Tenerife announced that striker Jesús de Miguel is in intensive care and in stable but serious condition after suffering cardiorespiratory arrest following a heavy collision with Andorra goalkeeper Oono in their Spanish Segunda División match on Sunday.
The collision occurred in the 98th minute, when the goalkeeper's knee struck de Miguel in the chest as they both tried to deal with an aerial ball. The club said the player regained his pulse thanks to cardiopulmonary resuscitation inside the ambulance, then began breathing on his own despite remaining unconscious.
De Miguel was taken to Nuestra Señora de Candelaria University Hospital, where he is receiving medical care, and the club said its medical staff were by his side. The player was treated on the pitch for more than five minutes before being taken away, and the referee showed Oono a red card.
Andorra had equalised at 2-2 in the closing minutes, and Lautaro and Dani Martín were also sent off before the match was stopped by agreement between the parties following de Miguel's injury.
