Mohamed El Shazly, spokesperson for the Ministry of Youth and Sports, said that offering 51% of Zamalek’s football company shares for investment requires approval from the club’s General Assembly, while the board can make the decision if investors’ stake is smaller. He added that the General Assembly has the right to accept or reject giving the investor a controlling stake.
El Shazly explained that Cairo Stadium uses advanced types of grass, and that replacing the summer and winter seeds and carrying out regular maintenance are routine measures to maintain the quality of the pitch, not exceptional measures.
He noted that Youth and Sports Minister Jawhar Nabil intervened to make Cairo Stadium available for Al Ahly’s match in the opening of the CAF Confederation Cup and Zamalek’s match in the opening of the CAF Champions League, while ensuring that its pitch was not damaged. According to El Shazly, this led to the postponement of scheduled maintenance work, in consideration of the importance of the start of the African campaign and the two teams’ wish to play at the stadium.
