Matthias Jaissle criticised Newcastle United’s performance after their defeat to Everton, saying the team had not put into practice what they had worked on in training and had failed to get the ball to striker William Osula. Newcastle managed only two shots on target, while their fans booed at half-time and at the final whistle.
Jaissle explained that long balls had not been part of the plan and that the team lacked confidence and courage in possession. He added that Newcastle had not shown their usual style and needed to analyse why they had strayed from the plan prepared for the match and work on improving quickly.
The coach said he understood the fans’ anger and disappointment, noting that the team had not reproduced on the pitch the level they had shown in training. He also disputed the referee’s decision on Everton’s goal, saying Fabian Schär had been fouled in the incident.
The defeat came after Newcastle had lost two consecutive home matches, while the report said the team had lost five of their last seven games.
