A report by Foot Mercato says Manchester United contacted Didier Deschamps in recent days to gauge his interest in taking charge of the team, as the club considers its options amid uncertainty over Michael Carrick’s future.
According to the report, United officials also contacted Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann and Aston Villa manager Unai Emery, who appears close to signing a contract extension. But Deschamps, the 2018 World Cup winner and 2022 runner-up, is not keen to return to management and has little desire to take the job given the club’s current situation.
This comes despite United’s 3-2 win over Roma in the Champions League, as the victory did not settle Carrick’s future. The report says the team is near the bottom half of the Premier League table after a winless run, and that the club’s management is drawing up contingency plans if results do not improve quickly.
