LaLiga has decided to stop matches in the current round in the ninth minute to mourn the death of Jesús de Miguel, a Tenerife player.
Jesús de Miguel's funeral was attended by Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez and Spain coach Luis de la Fuente.
The Spanish Footballers' Association said consultations with players from different categories and divisions had shown that it was difficult to compete amid the current psychological and emotional circumstances. It considered suspending activity the most appropriate course of action and called on the relevant parties to take the feelings of grief into account.
Association president David Aganzo said that setting aside a day of mourning was the best tribute to the deceased, noting that sporting activity could resume later, while stressing the need to put human considerations first and respect the feelings of players and others affected by the death.
