Football agent Jorge Mendes said many doubted Bernardo Silva could become an important player, believing his ambitions might extend only to playing in the first or second division. Mendes made the comments at the “Leading the Game” event organised by Católica Porto SBE and the Portuguese League.
Mendes added that he had difficulty persuading Monaco officials to keep Silva after his first season, noting that some clubs tend to favour more physically powerful talents in their youth teams.
Mendes said Manchester City was the ideal destination for the Portuguese player, as its possession-based, skill-oriented style gave his abilities room to flourish, and described him as one of the best players in Portugal’s history.
