Carrick drops Lisandro Martínez from Manchester United lineup against Roma
Manchester United manager Michael Carrick left defender Lisandro Martínez out of the starting lineup for the Champions League match against Roma at Old Trafford, bringing in Ayden Heaven instead.

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick left defender Lisandro Martínez out of the starting lineup for the Champions League match against Roma at Old Trafford, bringing in Ayden Heaven instead.
The decision came after Martínez was sent off and conceded a penalty in United’s 2-0 Premier League defeat to Chelsea on Saturday. Martínez was available for European action despite the dismissal, but Carrick chose not to play him.
The report pointed to a series of mistakes by Martínez in recent weeks and noted that United had not won in nine matches under Carrick. The team had also lost to Atlético Madrid and then to Como 4-1 in the Champions League, while Bruno Fernandes was left on the bench against Bournemouth after criticising the coach’s approach.
There was another change to the lineup, with Kobbie Mainoo starting in place of André Santos. The report also said Martínez had previously kept his place despite being fined after publicly criticising the club’s management following the defeat to Atlético Madrid.
